That really nails the issue. What would really sort things out would be a moratorium on the production of new cars.

A little like dog breeding, where the number of abandoned animals is hugely exacerbated by the ease of acquiring puppies.

The whole industry is at fault, constantly insisting new cars are so efficient they practically pay for themselves. All lies.

+1 I guess it slso ushers in a draconian era of forced 10+ yr oldcar scrappage too or massive tax increases hitting the poorest. Roll on fusion and limitless energy, lightweight high capacity, super fast charge batteries and an autonomous car than never crashes. We will mostly be unemployed, so can spend all day driving around going absolutely nowhere.

Scrappage schemes are just music to the ears of the manufacturers and benefits no-one.

Many of the cars purchased during the last one are pretty much worthless junk.

You seem to have skip read the mining of the rare earth elements bit that is the basic part of EV. They dont run without them!

Nope, they are mined anyway for other things, like the parts in a petrol car.
The oil is mined out of the ground too to make all three type of car mentioned so far.

Even the cycling industry seems to be going the same way. Designed in obsolescence is good for business.

My neighbours daily take their dogs to the beach in the car. "So what?" you may say. Their house is one house away from the beach, a literal handful of metres away!
