Let's build a Ritchey p23: what diameter seatpost do I need?

Re:

That is SO nice, I'm a canti fan personally but it's your build so make it your bike! Ride it, find out what you like & don't like about it & tweek accordingly. Liking those handle bars, if you do use the Ritchey & they need a new home let me know

Ooohhh you lucky bugger!!! One or two nice Ritcheys turning up lately with big potential.
What condition is the original paint in?
Xt is always nice but suntour group would be a nice option here. Suntour seems and looks a little better engineered to me even though I don't have any.

If getting out there is your priority then new cables and a regrease will see you out there.

Either way I'm not at all jealous   honest

Hehe I never get jealous on this site either, what a coincidence!

The paint is actually rather nice the reason why may be I paid a bit much is that it is pretty dented on the underside of the top tube where it may have been mounted on a car or something. My gamble was that won't effect the integrity of the frame, only time will tell!

But very cool find and… rescue ! :D

Re: Little Update

I still don't fully know what I will do with the bike but I figure regardless it needs to be cleaned! I forgot how utterly physical and exhausting dismantling a bike can be...

I discovered the paint was not in as great shape as I thought and while I have always been against it I now feel like maybe I should repaint it? There is some normal surface rust spots but what worries me are all these little lines like spiderwebs sticking up here and there, seems like rust beginning to creep up the paint? Its hard to see in the picture but there spots like this here and there..

Another thing is that it is quite dented under the top-tube, it really doesn't seem structural but.. dents... If I were to repaint I could have a go with trying to get the dents out which strips the paint, which I wouldn't want to do if were not to repaint.

Seems to have a Shimano dropout, not sure if that helps date the bike?

Always cool with old bike shop stuff, seems like Helen's Cycles in Santa Monica but it had to be peeled off...

You are a dirty bike

And cleaning all that stuff...

Let me know if you have any ideas about the rust/ paint/ dent stuff or any other stuff to help get my creative juices flowing! Also, still looking for a triple butted logic fork so hit me up if you know how I could procure one!

Re: seatpost diameter?

When I removed the seatpost it took a lot of effort and time, it wasn't seized but I was very very snug. The seatpost says 27.2 so what I am wondering is if it should be a 27 and the previous owner just jammed this one in? Anybody know what a 90 tig p23 has for seatpost size?

27.0 at least that's what goes on my P23. I guess one could brutishly shove a 27.2 in there but I wouldn't recommend it. Let's hope for you that the seat-tube on yours wasn't too brutalized. In a pinch one can try to carefully ream the seat-tube to 27.2 in case the 27.0 seat-post is too loose in there now.
