L'Eroica Britannia

Dirt Disciple
According to the local press there are nearly 2000 entrants to date, which is well above the 1500 limit initially set – 30% of these people are from abroad.

I will be there doing the 100 mile event (though I’ve only been on a road bike four times, so may be in a lot of pain!)

How many of you retro bike forumers will be there?

Me – I'll be there the whole three days.
Are you happy with classy retro-ride you've bought. Colnago wasn't it?

I only live 30 mins away from Bakewell, so I will just be there on the day of the event.

Overall, I am happy with the Colnago, though when I received it I was slightly disappointed that there are quite a few more 'marks' than the description and photos portrayed. Still, it looks great and apart from the tubs issue (I would feel more comfortable running clinchers) I like riding it more than my carbon bike (but I've not had exactly a lot of experience on either - as in two rides on each bike)

I thought there would be loads more people on this forum going.

Montello - I have visited your website - it's very interesting, but has made me start looking for a Montello!

Don't know why, but a lot of people on this forum are quite dismissive of the whole l'eroica UK thing. Mainly I think, due to the price. £75 for a single day ride is obviously very expensive, and has put a lot of people off. But £75 for a 3-day event, with all the bells & whistles, camping, the glorious Peak District to tour etc. seems like a fair deal. I know from experience the enormous up-front costs and trouble in setting up an event like this. Plus I think people should be generally more supportive of an event which showcases the world of retro bikes, especially on a website called . . . . 'retrobike'.

Lots of people (most?) were very negative about the event ... all the moaning occurred when you could still enter for £55 ...

Very British I suppose to moan and not support ...

Anyway ... looks to me like it is revving up to be a great weekend. I will be there all 3 days so I consider it a bargain.

Good luck with your hunt for a Montello ... make sure you don't get stitched up as some people have rebadged lesser frames.

Re:

Another 2 Kent lads will be attending, was due to do Italy last year but new job stopped that so thought it would be rude not to attend our own one! I know a lot of our fellow enthusiasts feel that it's expensive for "a bike ride" and they may be right but it is a commercial operation and to that end I'm O.K. with the cost for three days, but if I don't enjoy it then I shan't repeat the experience. Look forward to meeting many other retro bikers and seeing some awesome machines, plus I understand that all the roads on the 50 miler are downhill and have a tail wind!

Will be doing the 50 mile one – I ride around there a bit as it is. Just trying to find myself a cheap retro bike to do it on (waiting for a reply from one forum member) and going to see a bike off GumTree this morning. If you compare the cost with going to see a band at a big venue it doesn't seem too bad.
