I’ve only just spotted this post - nothing on the Britannia web page or the central Eroica one! As there seems to be no way of contacting the organisers either there has been a bit of an information vacuum (or I’m just useless at finding information on the internet). They could at least have put something on their webpage!
It seems strange that an event that generated 3-4000 entrants two years ago should just be abandoned? Does anyone know what happened to cause the cancellation?
I bought a second bike so one of my sons could join me this year. I’ll take a look at the Velo Retro and perhaps the Eroica Limburg.

With L'Eroica being now such a worldwide franchise, it seems inconceivable that the UK should be without an official event. I rode every one except last year when they changed the date and it clashed with another event I support. Seemed to have lost its way in recent years trying to be all things to all people and attempting to appeal to a non cycling public, although the ride on the day was always worth it.
I remember fondly the last one I rode in 2018, ridden in reverse so all the usual ups were downs and vice versa. The tortuous 2 mile climb of Beeley Hill, closed to traffic for us !, and the long march of cyclists up the inclined track ways from High Peak Junction to Middleton Top.
I see Rapha are sponsoring the Lincoln GP for the next two years, to stop it folding. We need something similar for L'Eroica Britannia. A major sponsor from the cycling world who will take hold of the event and return it to its retro cycling roots, including, please, the jumble ! Hopefully, it will at least break even for them but be seen not as a money making device but part of their advertising and PR spend.

There is a surprise. It go too big, too quick, less and less about cycling. Last years damp squib of an effort for one day piggy backing on another event was a waste of time. Like a lot of events in the UK we always have to over commercialise things, the other Eroica events around the world seem to be running so much better...
I've done three of the events, 2017 was massive in terms of non-cycling shenanigans, it could not be any bigger in some respects. Over priced food and drink and non cycling nonsense all held within a field in the middle of nowhere was never a recipe for success.
Other events have grown and are better, more intimate and genuine. The Eroica brand in the UK is badly damaged...

Ive done them all from 2015 including the 500 last year. Always enjoyed them and the commercial elements too. Sad that they can’t make the numbers work but that’s alot to do with the cost of putting on a closed road event in a country where little cycling infrastructure exists. Just booked the Retro Ronde van Vlaanderen for the 3rd year and booked to ride at L’Eroica original this year. If EB manage to resurrect next year, I’ll support it
