Leeds/Northern rides/meets

Are there any newbie friendly classic meets in leeds or near? I'm looking to start doing some longer rides but everyone's fixed around here and I can't hack that.

Anyone know of anything?

Hi, and welcome - especially to someone in West Yorkshire! Which part of Leeds are you in? There isn't anything formal regarding runs but I do get out on my retro steeds occasionally, generally around the Darrington/Askern area.

Perhaps we should try to arrange something informal later in the year. There are several RB'ers in the locality.

How fit is everyone? How far would you want to go?

BTW - is there such a thing as a 'Benelux Gran Sport' gear? There's a Campagnolo Gran Sport (parallelogram), Benelux Standard, Sport and Mark 7 (spring type), Benelux P7, Super 60 and Super 66 (parallelogram).

Not sure on the gear thing but I'm certainly happy to organise something in the area, I'm in Woodhouse leeds, so central all things considered. Fitness wise I've done York and back on the quiet roads but at my own pace not a all out whippet.

Would be good to meet some of the other classic riders, pub> ride> bbq?

I'd be up for this once my Daccordi is back on the road. July or September are good for me as regards timing. Any kind of ride would do as long as we're all on retro machines. Maybe nothing too hilly as I'll only have 42/23 as a bottom gear. Just don't ask me to go all retro on the clothing!

Excellent! We shall work on dates and the schedule later on but Leeds to York sounds like a good pace to me. I hope plenty will be able to make it if we decide to do some thing more than just a ride there and back.

how fit? i get out of breath going up the stairs...

I think that perhaps a more leisurly ride for instance from the library to the angel inn then possibly on to the duck and drake.

Ive heard there's a "l'eroica" award for pre 1990 bikes at this years Ron kitching classic sportive, taking place from york end of june to coincide with the ctc york rally. Sorry, dont know any more, but may be a chance for some of you to ride together.
