Late 80’s Early 90’s Gillott

Another frame that my friend John has had hanging on his wall. He bought the frame thinking it was a frame from the 50’s and it had been resprayed.
It didn’t look that old to me and after a bit of digging it transpired to be from the late 80’s/early 90’ when Mark Joynt owned the name.
Still a pretty little frame so the build up began.

Sourcing the parts, decided to go for Campag 8-speed with down tube shifters. John still wants it to look old and isn’t ready for Brifters.

Parts going on bike, nice looking and a more rideable size for John.

Getting there, John didn’t want my lovely Selle Italia saddle so Brooke’s on order.

Struck a bit of a problem with gears
I have 8-speed cassete, 8-speed indexed shifters but the chain goes up 2 sprockets with every index! After only 4 clicks the chain has shifted up all sprockets. If I disconnect the cable the shifter still has 3 more clicks. Scratching my head.

Fortunately John decided he preferred friction shifters in the end, never did understand what the issue was.
