lacquer or not?

I have a Saracen frame from Mr Bankrupt Stock, which is in a sort of blue/purple matt colour, almost like anodising. Before I build it up to ride, I'm undecided whether to leave as is or to protect it by lacquering it using clear car lacquer. I've half a notion that the frame is an unfinished one, which had its colour coat but never got lacquered, as Mr Bankrupt also sells same frame in unpainted cromo.

Wondered what other posters thought. Is lacquering an easy job and if so any recommendations on what lacquer to use.

One thing is, if I could ID the frame, I could apply decals and lacquer over them.

i'm no expert but i have done some rattle can paint in the past, mainly on car wheels. if you do decide to lacquer be really careful as it is runny stuff. lots of very thin coats is better than a couple of thick ones. when it goes on it usually looks like its not very shiney so the temptation is to apply loads -resist this otherwise you are going to get runs!

good luck and get some pics up

Spraycan's suck... 70% of the content is gas in liquid form, so there's like NO paint in the can... Also, single component laquers are wery soft, so you'll crack it just by looking at it in anger...

I'd go with clear powdercoating or leaving it to a paintshop getting it sprayed w/ proper two-component clearcoat...

I tried this years ago and it ended in a veritable disaster. I managed to coat more of my bike stand, my shoes and garage floor than the bike, finish was horrific. I'd have more success using nail varnish but wasnt married at the time.

There is an old Yorkshire saying "dont spoil't ship for an 'apeth o tar". Roughly translated, dont skimp on the final stage of a project just to save a few quid.

:D

paint

Hi if you wish to laquer your bike post the frame to Chris Marshall cycles in Keighly, he builds and sparays anything, he will charge you about £40.00 i think

Gee

That isn't his name but he's a seller on ebay that sells loads of bankrupt stock. Funny that! ;)

If you do a search on the bay for a Saracen frame you're guaranteed to come across at least one of his frames (more likely about 20).

BTW he goes by the name of bankrupt-surplus. :)

This is a frame of his: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BANKRUPT-26-MTB-B ... tsupported
