Kryptonite - the Clark Kent Ti Build

A few years back i thought it time to get myself a cheap hack bike. Something I might not worry about too much locked up on the street and something I could ride when taking the kids on bike rides to local parks. So i searched gumtree/facebook markey and ebay local listings... amazingly I found a pretty resonable Ti Clark Kent around the corner from me full build for like 400 quid. Bargain and unexpected but I obviously grabbed it. The seller even delivered it.

It became my hack bike... but as happens, slowly over time it it acquired xtr and found a pineapple hub, clark kent crank and stem and yet still remains my hack. Green began to creep into the build once the pineaple hub arrived, it was green.

Yesterday I added the Bombers but swear its the last green - nooooo more. Like pine furnture, buy one piece and the whole house morphs into a sauna. buy one green hub and suddenly it looks like kermit on steroids. As its a Clark Kent I am going to call it Kryptonite.

I would have thought the fork was the kryptonite to the Clark Kent Frame surely...? Over weight and under performing when compared to other options for such a cool Ti-Frame.

The bombers work a lot better than the Judy xc I swapped over! And weight isn’t much in it for a hack machine !

I never forget taking a set out of the box when they first came out and nearly dropping them on the floor, i was astounded at the weight, i did use a set on a team suspension bike that took some dialling to get them set up well enough on the return, they did get better, i forget which after market parts were used now to be fair.

I have a set on my workbench which i use as a paperweight to hold magazines down when the door opens and the wind blows a hoolie. (which i must put up for sale really.)

What ever fork you have for what your doing with it, its more than perfect though.

Nice built.

I agree, I have the same Z2 version in a Team Isse and it works very well even for todays standars. Soft and smooth. Nothing to do with the Judys or manitous from the same era.

I have a couple of other bikes built for light weight. Some may think it’s a waste of a ti lightweight frame but as it’s not one of my unicorns I’m happy with just leaving it as it is.

Yes, of course. I have a rear Clarke Kent hub on the bench but it isn’t a pineapple version... they never made it into proper production.

Which options? I am looking to either service or replace mine and could use some ideas. 80mm max travel and v brake ready.
