Kooka Kranks, safe for light XC?

Hello,
Recently ive been looking at picking up a set of kooka kranks. I've seen the horror stories and I want to know whether these are true. For some info, I am around 200lbs and will mostly be riding leisure xc, greens and blues, probably not much all-out sprinting. I dont do much in the way of crashing or crank strikes. for some reference here is the crankset that i will be most likely buying, wondering if these are the ones that explode when you look at them.

Yours seem to be the 2nd gen - as to my knowledge. The forged ones are 3rd gen.

1st gen (CNC):

2nd gen (CNC):

3rd gen (Forged):
s-l400 (5).jpg

I'm running a set of 2nd gen's, also have a set of topline cranks on my other bike... pavement only so I'm not concerned (that much) :)

But I wouldn't run them hard or over tighten the bolts.

hey! i know you from pinkbike! so what you're saying is just take it easy on them? wasnt planning to do much hammering. when i mean leisure xc, i mean doubletrack and mostly smooth singletrack with small rocks and no drops over 1' mostly curb sized drop offs. really mundane stuff. The bike is a gt rts if that matters

I have a set of forged cranks that I'm about to mount on my Kona. I ride mostly gravel with some light mountain biking trail riding. I have no hesitation riding with the Kooka Forged. If you're 200lbs and under and aren't planning on hitting the drops and jumps, I say ride em and inspect for cracks regularly like we should on any vintage cranks that are ridden, especially the CNC'd. I don't think the horror stories are the norm for easy riders
