My main trail bike, only recently was I able to identify it as a mid 90's Kona Hei Hei. Such a great riding bike! I am on the lookout now for some black decals with white outline... Only then will it be complete!!

That looks very purposeful. It might benefit from less travel up front, it's a bit 'off' geometry wise.

Being lesser educated on the geometry, i'm not sure I follow your statement. It never reaches what looks like full travel of that fork, even with the ETA turned, which shortens the travel almost entirely and helps a lot up steep hills, I still have 2 - 3" of bar showing at the top. It's definitely not a downhill bike, but it feels pretty good one most of the good trails around here.

The only other bike I have had to compare it to is an old rigid Trek 820, so maybe I just don't know what i'm missing out on! :p

I'm certainly open to recommendations on things that may enhance my ride!

Re:

I think what al is getting at ; is the fork is overly long for the frame geometry -- your frame would be best with axle to crown of 415mm ; and that fork looks longer than that. Slows down the handling as it slackens the head angle.

*Edit* Added my old heap ;)

Good to see all the Konas going strong!
Current ride, '95 Explosif, non period correct, very utilitarian. It came with period correct P2 forks, but the longer (410mm?) fork improves the handling IMO. This is the replacement after my '98 cracked at the bottom of the seat tube after almost 15 years of hard yakka  . More than a passing resemblance to it's predecessor ;)

Last photo before retiring.

Wife's bike. '95 Kilauea, period correct, almost NOS. Unfortunately a little too big, so it doesn't see much action.

Re:

I noticed a bit of increased activity on this thread, so not wanting to miss out…..

I can’t recall ever popping this on here, but I got it around the same time that Ernie did the deal for his Stars & Bars Ku.

I had the word “Ku” in my eBay search with “Include Description” ticked. There was a guy selling an AA, and he felt the need to justify the sale by mentioning that he also had a Ku, so needed to thin out his collection. I took a chance and asked him to contact me if he ever came round to selling the Ku. Anyway he did so a couple of weeks later, so I made him an offer.
