Kona photos available

Retro Newbie
Hi all,

I just found this site when looking for some info on one off my previous bike, a 2005 Kona Kula Primo. Looking through some of the posts my eyes almost teared up looking at some of the old frames/bikes from back then.

Anyway, that made me remember that I used to have a website, kona.dk (website does not exist anymore) where I used to have most of the official bike photos and specs from Kona all the way back from 1990 and up until 2006.

So if anyone needs any photos or specs I might be able to dig it out, like the ones attached

That's excellent news!......welcome to the site..... :D.....an official pic of my '95 cinder cone would be great, can't have too many screensavers and all that!.....

Please contact site admin John to see if they can be added to the Gallery. These could be really useful if there are any that aren't already on here

That was a great website you built and it's a shame that you couldn't keep it going. Anything you can transfer to this site would be much appreciated I'm sure.

They seem to have stopped offering detailed information after 2003, but I do have this on the 2005 Kula Primo:

2005
MODEL KULA PRIMO (frame)
MATERIAL Scandium 7000
TOP TUBE 38X1.5/0.65/1.2t
SEAT TUBE 30.6/31.8X1.7/0.9/1.5t
POST 27.2mm
DOWN TUBE 50X1.5/0.8/1.3t
HT GUSSET YES
SEAT STAY 20.5X1.6/1.2t
CHAIN STAY 25.4X1.5/0.8/1.1t
DISC YES
CANTI YES

The other thing perhaps worth mentioning in case you weren't aware is that they did disclose (eventually) that although the Kula geometry (see below and apologies for the size) showed a head angle lower than in previous years, they hadn't actually made a change to the frames. They had previously quoted a 71 degree head angle, but they hadn't explained that they meant that it would have head angle of 71 if you fitted a 41cm a-c P2 fork. That was still the case in 2005, but they started quoting the head angle as it was with the fork the frame was actually sold with. The handling was still the same as back in the day because they fitted shorter stems to compensate for the lower angles resulting from fitting longer forks.

Thanks for the info on my old Kula.

I'll try and get as much info on the old Konas up here as possible.

I also found a photo of my bike from back then :)

Woah.... How tall are you!!

Welcome to the site :)

Hi Barneyballbags

I am 189 but with rather long legs (inseam of 89cm) so the 20" Primo fitted me quite well.

Its the same "issue" with my old Kula from 2001 (that I am now rebuilding!) and my existing roadbike. I have quite a drop from saddle to handlebar - gotta works the aerodynamics :)

...and a very welcome addition to the Forum you are too

I miss your site - it was always at the top of my 'bookmarks' index so the imminent addition of your info to this one is excellent...

or me, it's my one and only job here :)

EDIT I never knew the kona.dk website, but I'm grabbing stuff from it now.

you had some interesting tech details from it including from 1995.

EDIT2 and I didn't know the 'uk' konaworld address either that or I didn't try 1995 which I guess is where the techdocs came from.

Do you mind if I use your old site to Cut&Paste the year's specs (into our Wiki at some point) as it would save me from reading and typing out the catalogues.
The pictures unfortunately have not recoverable, but I assume they where grabbed from the catalogues which are now all in our wiki (unless you have some more or missing pages from some of the 2002 ish era. :D)

So more details on the 2005 Kona Primo are
Frame Only
HODAKA made
S type derailer hanger

now the obvious one I guess
IS disc mounts and canti
27.2 seatpost
68 bb shell
1 1/8" headset

fork length = 476mm (geometry) (I assume geometry speced for as frame only ;))

and Anthony has given you the frame details and geometry based on that 476mm fork in it.
