Kona King Kahuna

There was a bloke on here selling a 1997 KK built up for £850 a few weeks ago. Looked in good nick too.

I nearly had it myself, but thought better of it.

bigbarryfatbaps is the person.

....are you sure it was £850 back then? if so the price has since gone up

so I managed to cut a really good deal with the American frame including a price drop and FREE shipping as the owner is flying to Heathrow next week, which is 4 miles from my house!
Price was still slightly over the odds but the frame is in such good shape with only 1 owner from new.

The UK bike on the thread above looked quite nice but the owner would not budge on price, plus the decals arent original - so I would have had the fuss of delivery/collection and selling the components (most of them) and re-badging the frame. I think it possibly has a little chain suck judging by my beady little eye. I probably could have saved around £100 all in but the frame isnt as original and my spidey sense just wasnt feeling it

Cant wait to get my hands on it!! This is going to be a pricey build though...I dont even know where to start with which fork to fit?...

Enjoy it dude. Would love a KK myself and i have been prone to the "i want it now!!" syndrome myself a few times ;) If its a '97 then a SID would be fine on it.

I just spotted this thread... I did indeed have a King Kahuna for sale, it was sold to a lad yesterday who came extremely well prepared to check the angles, tube lengths etc!

It sounds like there are quite a lot of knock off Kona ti frames doing the round?

Anyway I think they are superb frames and I hope the one you get is a great one mate, sorry we couldn't work out a deal!

No worries, great to hear you sold yours on the same weekend! ....you can thank me later for the free bump on your thread ;)

Hi,
I'm looking for a KKK (17") and read that...
What did that guy do? What to check when buying one? It is a matter of wrong angles, cracks...?
Any help welcome...
Cheers,
Chus

Well, he went on to a website (kona retro I think) and was examining the welds compared to those in the kona catalogue. He also mentioned that the knock off Russian made ones had a kind of yellow tinge to them. I'll see if I can get him to post in here with more info..

I can't remember ever seeing a rip off KK? I do know that TST (the company that made the ti frames for Kona) also made a frame similar to the KK but there were certain differences. No gusseting and round tubes if memory serves...

I'd be interested to hear what this chap has to say about knock off ti Konas.
