Retro Newbie
Hey all - I'm new here and wanted to drop in before I go and look at this bike on Wednesday. Not sure what's going on with the paint job and decals. Fair to say it's a '94 based on serial number? If anyone has any advice on things to look for (ie. cracks in certain places) it'd be greatly appreciated!

Excited to be rounding out my 90's Kona collection with a steel frame ('96 Kula and a '97 Hei Hei currently).

Cheers - Andrew

Note: I posted in the Kona Hot Serial Number List thread but posting again here for visibility.

that's right! me too. don't know much about them.. posted in the HOT S/N thread but haven't heard back from anyone there on things to look for.. i can't imagine there are counterfeits? agreed - will need some love to bring it back

I have a 97 model. Yours looks to be a 95 with ribbed down tube. Unlikely to be a fake, serial looks legit.
You will have fun renovating, choosing a colour will be a challenge!

Certainly looks like an authentic, but repainted, TET frame to me, although I would guess closer to '94. Will make a great bike when finished! The forks are much later though, and the A to C will be too long for a frame of that age (they actually look more like modern 27.5 forks) so it might be worth checking the head tube and welds (too long forks can put extra stress on this area) although it doesn't look like it has been ridden too hard!
