Kona Hei Hei race frame painted 18”

Not being funny, all the info about these team bikes and the history is on this site. My build thread joins the dots.

No problem. Just lazy thought processes / research on my part. Kona is not my particular field of interest.

Noticed the similarities > didn't notice any justification for it being a Hei Hei > jumped to a conclusion = Easily (lazily) done.

sorry I don't know loads about rare konas. It just looks beat up to me

Yep, definitely beat up but it's a piece of Kona history; ex-team bike in rare factory livery.

Anyone wanting a nice clean HH might as well buy a bare metal one

Repainting would be erasing history. The cool factor is so much better with all the tatter. Proof of the frame being thoroughly used and abused but still going is self evident. Don't ruin that.

I would smooth down all dings and scratches and clear coat over the whole thing. Then build it up with some beat up parts as mentioned earlier.

With respect, smoothing it over and adding a clear coat would be as destructive. Of course, this is all up the future owner but to be clear @raidan73 is absolutely right
