Kona Hei Hei 1991 British Championship Contender

Hello,

That's truly a wonderful bike ! 😍

Must cost a liver, or more probably two ! 🙈

I also have a set of Panaracers on my Kona (the Smoke at the rear and an Dart on the front).
Perhaps I'm saying some bullsh*t (it wouldn't be the 1st time :p) but on the pics, it seems that the two tires of the bike are not mounted in the same direction (I've just compared with mines). The rear would be good and the front not). Is that wanted ? If it is, what would be the benefits of such a thing ?

W.

Thank you, it certainly is a nice bike, unfortunately becoming a garage queen, so I need to sort that out.

Smoke is a directional tyre and it is the same direction front and rear according to the tyre decals. Dart is a front specific tyre so I understand where you are coming from.

On my ‘93 I have cable stops on the front of the TT but not at the rear, so I have to break the outer and add a rear somehow or remove the front…

It’s not ideal but the neatest solution I could find.

Can’t find a pic that shows front and back clearly, but you get the idea…
Hi;
I'm pretty sure you have a later model with that special aluminum clamp around the seat tube (just above the seat tube - top tube juction)... Only that the clamp is missing on your frame. That clamp looked like a lower seat post clamp but it was designed to route the brake cable around the seat tube and down to the brake... just like a noodle would.
There is a Chinese company selling repro clamps and other cool retro stuff on Ebay:

This thing would even work with V brakes so it's an improvement over the original one but of course it's only second choice...
And here you have the original thingy:

Hope I could help...

Ah... Your model should be a 94 or later. It has the bullet style dropouts meaning the frame was made by Sandvik. You might want to search for the Kona 1994 catalogue here in the forum. You'll find your frame with a Rock Shox fork and a XTR 900 gruppo...
