I'm having a clear-out as my collection has overgrown. This is my 1989, 18.5" (C-T seat tube) Kona Explosif.
Pretty close to factory spec, some exceptions are:
Saddle is dated 1992 (I think) not 1989, but has correct white logo.
Cassette is modern HG30 & chain is IG51 - only done two laps of Mayhem and a couple of local 1 hour long rides, maybe 6 hours riding tops!
Handlebars are Kona 165 which close to the originals - but lack a big score around where the stem goes - unlike the original
Tyres: Ritchey Megabites (NOT the Timbuk IIs pictured, they're not included)
BB is a Tange sealed item - I think the original was Shimano.
Pedals are Wellgo which are a similar colour to the original seat post.
Good bits:
Just installed a NOS Tange headset - identical to the original and rare as rocking horse poo in 27.0 mm!
U-Brake pads were NOS XT.
Just fitted a very good condition Deore rear mech.
Disgusting original seat post is still present - and not stuck
Rims have very little wear
Bad bits:
Some winker has over-tightened the pinch bolt on the front brake caliper and Helicolied it. It has held so far.
One of the spoke holes on the front hub has a hairline crack.
Seat tube and top tube are dented from where a child's seat was fitted - no I'm not joking :x
I'm struggling to put a price on this, on the one hand it is quite rare - I reckon there is probably only half a dozen I can think of that belong to RetroBIKE members, but I appreciate the dents in the frame devalue it.
I'm asking for £225 collected from Woking, Surrey. Given the condition I'd like the buyer to see the bike in the flesh before handing over the cash so they are 100% happy.
