Kona '91

Froggy

Retro Newbie
Hi, I am trying to restore what I believe to be a 91 vintage Kona frame, judging by what decals had remained after a non finished stripping attempt by an earlier owner. I am not sure however which model I have. Judging by the construction I have narrowed it down to the Hahanna or Fire mountain. She is an 18" frame. Could anybody tell me if there is any difference between these models, I wish to replace the original decals. Looking at the catalogues some kind soul posted on this site, the only distinguishable feature seemed that the Hahanna had a taller steerer tube than the Fire mountain? Any help would be appreciated

Post some pictures or put a link up to some ( think you need 5 posts to put up pictures).... That'll help... ;)
Any difference in steerer length would have been down to frame size.

Frame dimensions and geometry were the same... differences would have been components

Welcome, btw

I would guess that there wasn't any difference between the Hahanna and Fire Mountain that year. The bikes in the catalogue look different only because they are different sizes.

The catalogue says that the Hahanna wasn't available in the USA, so it appears that it was a new base model just for us poverty-striken Brits. That would seem to suggest that it is unlikely that they would have gone to the trouble/expense of developing a different frame for it.

Thanks Chaps, it seems likely that I have a Hahanna for my first Kona. Here are some picture links to paint some light on the matter.

The second link is another unidentified frame bought from a charity shop for £10! The owner thinks he had a similar style Dawes? but wonders if perhaps he's a muddy fox. Does anybody please know where we might match the Serial number PK2361064 BI-0186. Sorry to be a burden at mo.

The Kona frame is actually a 92 not a 91, so I take back what I said previously. What makes you think it is a Hahanna? The weight?

Thanks Anthony, may I Invite myself into your vast knowledge and ask Was it the Clear Dedisgned by Joe Murray decal, that gives my frame it's '92 age?

I gave her the old tapping accustic along the tubes which seems unchanging, not like a butted construction. The frame weighs 5lbs ish. Cheers

Is that a flared seat tube?

Colour is useless as an identification of model, as all where available in black at that time

Anthony, I would have said, looking the headtube badge, that it was a 1991 rather than a '92, as for '92 didnt they they have the target roundel?
(as usual however, I will fall at your most knowledgable feet in humble worship ;) )

I was convinced it was black and maybe it's the re-spray and my eyes are wonky but now I can see a touch dark green or blue
