Koi but not a carp or pond in sight.

Too bad RS changed from screws to pressed fork legs. I think it will not be easy to find a fork with MC2 steerer. If I were you, I would switch to those kind of Judys with the screws. Those can then even be upgraded to hydracoil for better performance.

Re:

Thanks for the reply Thias, as for the frame size I used a spirit level to level the rear stays parallel to the floor while the F&F was on the stand & then used it to measure the virtual height of the frame, got 21" would this be right? As for the forks I thought they where shimmed !! So I wont be able to swap the crown & steerer straight over from some 96 or 98 Judy Sl's ?

Who needs sunshine when uou've got this  and i hope you get the forks sorted mate as this will be awesome when you've finished it ;) ..

I don't think so.
Your fork crown steerer will look something like this:
file.php

(picture shamelessly stolen from user "retro klein")

But if your stantions are ok, you might be able to swap everything else (lower tubes, Hydracoil insides...) from a 97 Judy onto the fork crown that you have. You would't even need to undo the steerer. ;)
I am not 100% sure. But I did a few conversions and even managed to build the hydracoil system onto a '95 Judys (Link - But be aware that in your case, the swap would be much easier, I think.). Those inner parts are pretty much interchangable. And the lower tubes hardly changed. All the sizes that really matter were the same.

Re:

100 percent you can use 95/96 Judy lowers on those stanchions but you have to swap out both the damper and dummy cartridges as the Allen bolts at the bottom are a larger diameter on the 97s.

the op said the stanchions are worn out though..

Mines got a Manitou Mars Comp (i think) fork, obviously with a Klein specific steerer. I don't know much about it as it came with the bike, it has a lock out. Not sure if it was stock on another Klein model or a crown/steerer transplant but it works. So there are options besides RS.

Your fork was shimmed, defo. not a klein specific steerer. ..and it looks ... Erm.. How do I put it ... Not ... Good?

@henry: I did not understand whether the OP was talking about his Klein-attached or his other fork... But in the pics from the other thread it looked like it was the separate Judy SL that has the worn stantions.

ah well if that is the case then he has no issue!

i actually did once drill and dremel out a 95 leg to fit a 97 judy sl cartridge...I don't recommend it!...definitely easier to just put 95 cartridges in the 97 stanchions..

No worries, its a rider, not a looker. I'll be taking it apart next week or so as i want to sell it, so will see whats in there.

I just took a closer look and it seem I threw 2 different storys together and got confused. The other tread is a different guy. Oops.

So the stanchions are worn/chipped and the TO is pretty much screwed.

So here is what I would do. Keep the worn stantions until you find a better fork or even a seperate Klein-specific crown with screws for the stantions.
You might be able to repair the fork by using new bushings. And - this is the important part - you can press in 3 instead of two bushings each side. This will reduce flex and play caused by the missing material on the stantions surface. And you would be able to use the fork for some additional years ;)

If you then find a suitable fork crown with screws, switch to the '95 style stantions and buy a better fork. SL, or FSX maybe.. ;)
