Just about finished building this, but the front mech rubs on the tyre in the granny ring.

I appreciate the tyres are 2.1 but would rather keep them, in fact I'd like to go wider at some point.

Now I barely use the granny ring but it's still going to bug me knowing I can't shift down there without it rubbing.

So do I:

1 - keep riding and don't change down
2 - get narrower tyres
3 - change to a wider bb. Its an m950, I've got the 112.5 version, they did a wider one didn't they? 118? Or would that be too wide

Thanks all

Well, while a low Q is desirable you can go quite a lot wider - 118 will not be too wide, given the monster Q of the current breed of DH 83 BBs and boost cranks. But I think the m950 only came in 112.5 and 116 - will that give you the clearance you need? If you go to xt square taper or middle burn then you have a lot more choice and then you can go wider, as you plan. I would go for Middleburn later RS square taper and then you can really muck about with spacing by inserting BB spacers on the drive side. I sold some RS9s recently (limited edition) in 9/10 for 120gbp. Silver RS9s would look good on this....

Ahh yes 116 for the xtr that's it. Only problem is these octalinks are pretty hard to find. An extra 4mm should do it, although if I ever do go for a wider tyre I'd imagine I'd need more

Thanks for the advice though... Definitely a good shout on the middleburn and square taper... Much more options on the square taper
