After my Xizang project 7 years ago this is my first Project again.

The frame set found the way to me 5 years ago. But I just didn't feel like taking care of it. So the frame dusted in the corner the last year, even though I had all the parts together.

In advance: the frame is not in the best condition. Some chainsuck, some scratches here and there, and the typical fading. But the Bike is perfect for driving.

A couple days ago i asked myself why I dont just build it up to ride it this year?!

So let's start today with some Pictures

First step: I started to clean the frame with an pre cleaner.

I planed to build the Klein with XT 730 components.
Seatpost a time correct Syncros, Turbo Lite saddle, Richey grips,
Sun Chinook cr16 rims with Panaracer Smoke/Dart skinwalls,
Quick Release: Ringle silber.

So far.

Very odd that the lower lettering on the forks has the white outline as used on the ‘91 models, they should just be black. Perhaps the original forks were damaged and replaced under warranty a year later.

Oh, I didn't notice that before. So you think the frame is a 90's Modell and the fork is younger? I cant say anything about the frameset history.

You'll be able to date the frame and fork by looking for their stamped numbers, should be somewhere on the underside of the rear dropouts and rear of the fork dropouts.
