Actually, that one, over the last two years, was up for sale 4-5 times. If I remember right, $350 is the most it went for, though possibly less and several times it either didn't get a bid or reach reserve. I would be very surprised if the owner got the kind of money they are asking, but odder things have happened (et al, $460 for Mavic 231's).

well, if anyone is interested , I have one rim (sorry, only 1 ) just like that sitting in the garage, never installed on a hub. 36 holes in silver.

Some people went scrambling for their old rims but everyone pretty much recognized it was a freak exception. This is 3-4x the normal price and no one coud say for sure why it was so much.
