Re:

Interesting, had a few opinions at work and it seems to be stainless steel. Here's some pics, if there is a thread in the arm then I'm happy to drill if out and source a new bolt, anyone have any other images of Toplines showing the same area?, wondered if these were different for some reason. Thanks for help.

Re:

I have some black toplines (not sure if selling though!), will check the bolt situation tonight.

Re:

From the images I've seen most were assembled with the rivet but some did have a bolt in.

How would you seal it?, do you use a wax or something?

Re:

Of course, probably will, I'm going to put up a thread in chat and see if anyone has ever removed the spider from a rivet type one, I'm tempted to do it anyway and hope there's a thread and if not put one in and get a bolt for it. Cheers for help again.

I had the same problem years ago,
in my case, the screw was titanium.
was torture to drill the screw  , we thought it was steel but after several hours, we saw it was titanium. crazy to remove it, although a skilled mechanic, having good tools and materials I would not try ...

There are two models mentioned. one screw and another model riveting.

Re:

Thanks for info, could be Ti as it has a slight grey colour, it's non-magnetic and very hard. I'm an Avionics aircraft fitter so have the means around me if I go down that road.

if you are trying to remove all the color, you can remove it for example with products containing sodium hydroxide at low concentration. for example plunger pipes.
BUT BEWARE, DO NOT LEAVE THE SUBMERGED MATERIAL FOR A LONG TIME, SODIUM HYDROXIDE ALUMINIUM IS EATING.
YOU MUST CONTINUOUSLY ENTERING AND CLEAN WITH A BRUSH.
WHEN COMPLETE WASH THOROUGHLY WITH WATER AND A BRUSH WELL SEVERAL TIMES TO REMOVE THE REMAINS OF SODIUM HYDROXIDE.
ALUMINUM TAKE A DARK COLOR IN SOME CASES, IT IS TIME TO POLISH
