It's great.
Much better than my attempt at recreating one by cutting the down tube off an old Raleigh Burner and attaching a clutch cable

Hey Steve,

I have a set of 3x AC skewers with faded anodisiing. Your painting yours has given me some ideas!

However, I've not tried yet, but how did you remove those little rubber knobs in the nut end of the skewers? Do they just pull out in one piece?

yep the rubber / plastic bits pull out easily enough. The harder part is removing and later reinstalling the circlip that holds the QR lever in place...
