Kilauea is back for 2010

Yeah, but I think these are quite nice.
Especially compared to some of their recent two-tone monstrosities.

I'm glad they've re-introduced a steel option.
But I going to reserve judgment until I know more about it.
Like price, weight, more photos etc..

I put kona explosif 2010 into Google but didn't find anything - apart from this thread.

I think this year's Kona graphics are the worst I have ever seen. HORRIBLE. These are marginally better, but they need to look and the 93/94 graphics and take a massive backward step.

Yeah and maybe invest some money in a decent Font..

Had an email back from Paligap today saying the Explosif frame will be available in the UK from January 2010, but no price has yet been set!

Anything further on the Explosif tubing for 2010? I thought the Dedacciaiceia tubing felt not too bad. I had a 2005 and it was nice

Whats up with the logos?

They have like three new logos each year. How about sticking to the 1989 logo and splatter paints?

Kona haven't used branded tubsets since 2008. Their only steel mtb in 2009 was the Unit 2-9 and they gave no details then of what they meant by Kona Butted Cromoly, so I assume they're using the same tubeset now for the Explosif. No indication that it's a heat-treated tube, so I assume it's just generic db 4130. The Dedacciai Explosif weighed almost 5lbs, so this presumably weighs the same or more.

So it sounds as though it's a little bit like what people suspect eBay sellers of doing - repaint a Lava Dome, put Explosif stickers on it and ask for an Explosif price. Except now it's Kona doing it. If I could afford a new frame, I'd go for a quality tubeset and good geometry, and I'm afraid with Kona you may be just paying for the name.

It's unfortunate that the Blizzard has been downgraded to Columbus Zona for 2010, but that's still a decent tubeset. Or there's the 853 Orange R8, not exactly a snip at £550, but my choice would be a Cotic Soul, still not cheap at £470, but I bet the Explosif will cost more and be nothing like such a good frame. Souls seem to fetch more than Explosifs on eBay.

2010 Kilauea and Explosif

The new Kilauea and Explosif frames were on show at the Kona stand at the Roc d'Azur expo. The new Kilauea looked great and fair play to Kona for reinventing a famous name. Bit doubtful about the new Explosif, but I'm glad a 26" steel frame is back in the line-up. RRP for the Explosif frame is £550 which seems completely mad.
