Much as I adore this frame and it’s shiny shiny redness, I have to accept that it doesn’t really fit me and besides, I’ve been tipped off that the retro future lies in titanium not steel.
For whatever reason, Kelly seems to have a low profile in the UK, which is a shame as the frames are of fantastic quality. Still, I guess that means that you’ll be the only kid on the street with a Kelly.
Chris Kelly built this frame in 1997 to ‘pay’ for a car from a friend. That guy stuck it in the corner of his garage until I bought it from him in May as NOS. I built it up and rode it about 200 metres before realising that I’m too big for it, I dried my tears off the top tube, and since then the missus has done about 5 dry road miles on it before she realised that all cycling is over-rated.
The frame is in great condition – no dents or dings. There is a curiously fresh chip to the paint on the bottom bracket shell – as pictured – I’ll have to speak to the missus about that…. And the Kelly stickers are ‘crazed’ due to retroness. The photos really don’t do justice to the candy apple red paint. You really need to own it to appreciate it!!
Important measurements are…. 17” CTT, 14 1/2” CTC, 21” TT actual and probably about 21 1/2” TT effective. 27.2 seat post, 1 1/8” headtube, V’s only, probably takes an 80-100mm fork – I rode it rigid with a 415mm ATC fork. I’ve got a 28.6mm M95- something XTR front mech I can chuck in for, say, £30 to the lucky winner too. The subtle gold ano bottle cage bolts are included gratis.
£350 posted.
Why yes! I am open to swaps/ part-ex! I’m building up something less retro, and the shopping list includes…. 100mm bouncy forks, crossmax disk wheels, IS mount disk brakes and/or M95- XTR drivetrain gubbins.
