My position is this:
I don't believe in the death penalty. I don't think that any society should kill its citizens, no matter what their crime is. I am fundamentally opposed to it as a principle. I understand the economic, punishment and deterrent arguments but feel the principle is more important than any of those things.
It is what separates us from these killers and rapists.
However, I feel no sorrow for this person and agree that the world is better without them. I am not going to waste my time worrying about them, he chose his path and it led to this.
Nor am I going to waste my time worrying too hard about people on death row etc. I don't think we should kill them, but I ain't going out of my way to try to save them!
