I'm not really sure what it means for the record though TBH.
I remember Boardman, Obree, Indurain, Rominger, then Boardman again breaking it on very similar looking bikes.
Then the athletes Hour record was the one to beat, so it went back to Merckx. Then Boardman again, followed by Sossenko. So the UCI change the bike design rules again for , in the words of B.Cookson ' there was a lull in riders attempting it'.
So IMO , we have a new record that means very little as it sits between the outright record and the athletes record.
That's to take nothing away from Jens Voigt though, a credit to the sport.
Just question the UCIs decision to change the rules again.
