Where in the UK can we get a tool like the one RJ the bike guy uses, which is a Dreier Brothers,

Basically a jab saw with a supported back.

It's a padsaw.
Jabsaw is their brand name, and this handle appears to have a stabilising carrier for the blade, which is unnecessary if you're careful, but would probably jam in a seatpost. IMG_20250106_114136.jpg
It's superior to a rag wrapped around the hacksaw blade, because it leaves more free blade.

You can use this to remove an aluminium post from a steel frame, but it's time consuming and there's a little skill needed to avoid damaging the frame.

A quick google, and no 'padsaw' has the supported back, which RJ and others suggest helps a lot...two steps forward one step back as the saying goes.

There must be a padsaw with a supported back somewhere out there.

It sort of defeats the object of a padsaw. Reckon it's probably rather rare in the states too.

put your blade in to cut on the pull stroke and the spine shouldn't make any difference.

You can get blades in a thicker grade if you're snapping them.
The blade is pretty stiff when correctly applied.
