Are you seriously telling me that all the people rioting are rioting because they are interested in the cause that is in question :shock:

Why now, why the specific target?

Throwing your weight around and being a vandal etc,does nothing to further your cause in my mind it just makes you look like a thug.

Every gain ever made against the ruling elite on behalf of the majority, in the UK and around the world has been achieved through protest and direct action. You wouldn't even have the vote unless millions had fought for it for you. It is in the nature of the state to meet such demands for change with violence. If we give in to such violence we are nothing but slaves.

In general no I don't mean to patronise anyone.

My previous post ( 6:35 pm) in this thread was an ironic use of patronisation and ageism in an attempt to illustrate how unjustified patronising and ageism is.

Problem is, if someone says something unbelievably stupid, how do you respond without being insulting or patronising? I would personally tend to err on the patronising side.

the fact is that wherever there is a large protest for any cause, a group of mask wearing idiots (rent a mob I like to call them) will turn up to be violent and destructive. Most of the protesters were peaceful and the more intelligent amongst them will have been sharp enough to recognise that picking up up criminal record for rioting at that stage of your life will probably mean that you have wasted your efforts (and money) in getting a degree anyway! Graduate: "I've got a great law degree, but I also got done for rioting" - Interviewer: "next please!"

When I was 18 I said I would never give up weed and conform, a couple of years later I was working in an office and couldn't stand weed!
