It's kicking off in London...

yep, we saw that in action back in the 70's. Each industry took its turn - miners, dockers, transport workers, binmen, electricity producers ... result... a nation of discontent. It was then left to public enemy No. 1, maggie to sweep the debris into the bin and restore order and give hope to those who actually wanted to crack on with life

I especially note the word "we" in there. I thought you were against climbing onto the backs of others to help yourself[

c'mon fellas, lets keep the debate constructive, not personal. If someone's lifestyle annoys the hell outta you, such that you can only throw punches, just walk away from it. I'd hate for john to lock another good thread

Hear hear.

4 against 1 was bullying when I was at school.

As a matter of principle I´ll stand next to SGW just to even the numbers out a bit.

You're bang out of order chaps.

Personally I think this thread should have been locked ages ago.

And to that I say bull. Everyone is entitled to state their opinion. It's a trolling thread, and was posted to illicit negative responses. Why are you surprised they were put forth?

discussing politics is risky anywhere but when staements are the length of the page you do have to wander about the intent ..ie most posts are general light hearted not too deep chats about life in general...its when they become soapboxes that they become something else...

ps we need a face palm emoticon...much better than a winkie jobbie .

I don't think it will help if we get too diverted back to the seventies, you can imagine what the hecklers will do with that. But in reply to your point:-

Discontent is an inevitable consequence of social change. Those on the gravy train will never give up their privileged place without a fight. Considering the powers at their disposal, that is likely to be destructive.

People will be adversely affected, sacrifices will need to be made. Those who think they are doing well under the current system, and who have little concern for the welfare of others, will inevitably get very upset. The alternative is to continue on our current path.

You might also think about what happened to our industries after Maggie swept them into the bin. Look at the quality of those that survived.

Not sure what you are getting at here pm. Surely mutual support and solidarity in the pursuit of shared goals are the absolute opposite of individualistic self interest.

With you on the principle of civility and fairness dbmtb. Don't need to worry about me being bullied though, they haven't landed a punch yet. :)

Why do you want it locked?

Except for people you select?

I think you should direct your accusation towards JohnH who posted it. The vast majority of my own contributions have been direct replies and responses to questions, challenges and insults.

How short and how shallow would you like us to be restricted to? Have you considered Twitter? :)

It's childish. It´s boorish and you should be bloody ashamed of yourselves.

And if it's trolling - why are you feeding the troll?

Scuse me, I am still here. ;)

This trolling lark, is it seriously being suggested that I take the time to post this stuff just to provoke people. As many posts on here clearly show, anyone wanting to do that wouldn't need to take half so much trouble. It's also quite a coincidence that everything I have said, I actually believe.

I think the accusation is being made in a cowardly attempt to avoid the issues at hand. (Is that trolling?)

What I find very interesting in this thread and others, is it is always the same pat back people that try to deny the words of others, as if they expect everyone else to have the same perspective as they.

Life is what it is, and despite all attempts to make it the best that it can be, shit happens and everything falls apart.

But I am finding the older we get, the more tired we get of the same 'ole, same 'ole attrition and as a natural defence, we retreat into a world where we believe what we want to believe and ignore anything that is in the least bit painful to bear or taxes the mind to worry. In short, we become complacent, the fight goes out of us and we just accept, anything for a quiet life.

But as we become complacent, others work against us and though it might not affect us in our apathy, the young will reap the rewards of our stupour as they find life that little bit more difficult than their fathers before, but they will do the same, a lifetime of vexation gives way to apathy and their sons will feel it more.

Life is what it is, we can make it or break it, it is up to us, but why chide those who still fight and try, just because we have lost the will and hope ourselves.
