It’s time to come clean..

Used EP90. Drove from Coventry to Nottingham with a gearbox in the back of a car. Some arse forgot to fit ALL the plugs (not me).

Ended up with a couple of litres of it in the boot floor and soaked into the rear seat and rear carpets.

They ended up scrapping the car as it was cheaper than trying to replace all the bits that had been contaminated.

I spent 4 hours in that car trying not to puke.

Actual LOL.

I sold a gearbox to a guy and he sent his missus to collect. I didn't think to mention anything, and I received a text from him a few days later. She. Was. Not. Happy.


It's great stuff.

Back on the day I used to see folk lub their chains with GT85 just before the start of a race - however I never considered it to be any more than a water dispersant and very light lub - but boy did it smell nice and leave an indelible imprint on me - it’s like every time I smell Ralgex it reminds me of playing Rugby

Strange how a smell can take you back to another place - Castrol R and also Silkolene two stroke oil are another


But WD40 to me reminds of nothing more than and squeaky door hinges which 3 in 1 is better at curing long term

I was just going to post about Castrol R and Silkolene!! Every time I hear an old scooter or old 2 stroke I open the car window and get a nose full (I’ve got a huge nose)

If we are talking 2 stroke oil Motul 600 wafting out of a highly strung RGV 250 Ohh what a smell. As for Gt85 WD40 i am on the fence dont prefer either just use what ever is available

Everything about the sounds awesome, the sound and the smell. If my misses would let me I’d have something like an old RD125 just to sit in the garage and rev then smell - trying to balance the level of fumes so I didn’t die.

I use Castrol 2T oil in my Vespa T5 and spray grease on my mountain bikes. WD40 and GT85 have no place in mountain biking.

Cant beat a mad 2 stroke.A friend had an LC and it was great.Wind it open,nothing much,then whack,I swear I could wheelie it in nearly all the gears !Those RGVs were super trick,what a racket and smell.

There’s a couple of posts on YouTube with RGs - one is some crazy modified thing and one standard but both shoot to the horizon quickly on the rear wheel

GT-85 contains PTFE or Teflon, which is dispursed into the air and our nostrils with that sweet smell we love so much. However, I'm increasingly concerned that it might not actually be good for our health as Teflon is considered carcinogenic when ingested!
I have 3 cans sat on the shelf which I'm now avoiding. WD40 is my friend again.

Ahhhh - the smell of two strokes !!

I had the good fortune to drive the fourteen hours drive down to Laguna Seca to take in the Moto-GP races down there, during the last year that they ran the 500cc two-strokes (just before switching over to 4-stroke 800's).

What a massive pleasure that was (Schwantz/Lawson/Rainy etc); when men were men and the power band came full-on instantly ... high-sides everywhere and wheelies all day long!

sigh. Of course it's a safer, more compliant, and much more 'tolerant' world that we live in today
