Evening all, my forks are about 8mm too short for my new frame, will I get away with it or is it a big fat no?

The steerer tube must be above the upper bolt for the stem to clamp properly.

Do you have any spacers under the stem?

Lower stack height stem might work if you only need a few mm?

I'm no expert but I'd defo worry that the top bolt on the stem is clamping nothing.

I agree. I wouldn't ride with it like that either

Or you could get a different stem with a single bolt, or an internal wedge system like a syncros.

Or..........

I have in the past rigged up a system where I fit another starnut into a small piece of cut-off steerer tube and then run a long stem bolt down through the stem cap and both star nuts clamping the whole mess together - definitely an 'at-your-own-risk' fix, but I have raced with this set up and had no-problems.

uh mines a lot worse thats why i carnt use my stab poxsy stratos forks i wouldnt use them like that on a pub bike never mind a dh

how retro are we talking here

If that's a Ritchey Comp stem a quick serach shows the one I'm looking at in a picture on a website is 45mm stack height.

Go for a new stem, FSA does 40mm and 35mm stack height stem for example some cheap one's on CRC now though only in the oversized bars it seems

Your headset look internal so I doubt that could be changed for a lower one.
(of course if this is not a retro question, ride like that, watch it come loose, bend something (hopefully not yourself ) realise you should ride retro and buy a quill setup ;))
