Is this how it starts?

i'm sat here surrounded by bikes i intened to use for spares, but restored and put them into the collection........just relax and roll with it, you will know when the right time to part with your kit is, until then just enjoy them! :D

yep its a one way road down a very steep hill and the brakes dont work I can tell you

know the feeling though. bought a crappy old bmx for a fun project, and building one for my sister, bought a bike for spares which just happened to come with a nice GT (now mine) and just about to pick up another spares bike to replace the spares bike which actually ended up becoming a project. so currently have 2 BMXs in my bedroom, 1 in the kitchen, 1 in the shed and dont know where the other is going to go yet.

oh and if its any consolation, my old bolinas ridge was bought as a donor bike for parts but couldnt bear to break it so ended up getting more spares bikes. Luckily for me I only have the one marin now. but that probably wont stay the only one for long. In fact Ive moved into the smaller spare bedroom so the big room can be used for storing all my bikes haha

yes sir, you're on the one way track now.

I guess I really can't complain. I've got a garage and the room for them. They haven't become houseguests yet. The only time No. 1 has been in the house was last Christmas when I was doing annual maintenance on it. Too cold to work outside on it, so I brought it inside and I stood beside the fireplace.

You're not there yet. Give it time.

Yes, that's one way of it starting. I took a smilar but varied path. A few new, sprinkled with upgrades, a used frame here and there, then new bikes from spare parts, then upgraded components, a new this, new that, more upgrades and wallah! 14 complete with probably most of another in parts sitting around. Luckily we have a 3 car garage so the 14 bikes, 2 12' kayaks, 3 surfboards, 3 vehicles, lawn equip, tools, work bench, camping/fishing equip, freezer, shelving and a 6ft fiberglass hammerhead shark all fit with room to actually walk around plus the vehicles are not blocked in either. Took awhile after we moved to get it this way but got it done............and there's a nice big attic out there to put even more stuff in!

Nooooo. Am I supposed to put up a little sign... "Abandon all hope, he who enters here..." Time to cull the unridden old susser, and maybe my better half's unridden cruiser.

Yes. See my sig! :)

Holy Crap Batman! Talk about houseguests. The one pic looks to be an excercise room with a weight rack and 2 bikes on the wall and 2 more in the foreground - all inside no less.

It was bad enough having the bike inside for a couple of days last Christmas, a bit worse when I removed and serviced the RockShox fork on the dining room table one Sunday (and didn't have all trace evidence removed before my better half got home). However, she got adamant when she found some parts in with the dishes in the dishwasher (BTW, the Potscrubber cycle with Citrus Degreaser works wonders on rims, cranks, and cassettes (careful to properly relube afterwards).

I will mention this. For the first time ever this past October, I took a week of vacation from work so that I could play with my bikes. That's all I did. Rode, cleaned, serviced, and rode some more. Best fun I've had in ages!

I'm thinking that I'm good with what I I got...

Based on what I'm seeing in these pics, I'm way out of my league (and quite possibly in way over my head). A respectful tip'o the hat from a relative retro-vigin to those that have already blazed their way.

I guess in reading and viewing the replies and the corresponding pics, I'm amazed, stymied, and a bit wary. The pics show extensive collections, passion, pride, and maybe a wee bit of embedded caution. I'm not sure if my bikes are an extension of who I am/my identity (yet?). Maybe its not a question of if any more (as suggested by the replies), but a matter of how much. The picss show some serious committment.

Looking closer, from the perspective of having taken the time and expended the resources to restore some, these bikes are almost works of art. Trophies even. Statements of apsiration, and several of inspiration. Attention to detail and lovingly cared for.

all I wanted was my own stash of spare parts to keep bikes 1 and 2 operable...

...and I watched enough of the You Tube content to understand why I might be "doomed".

I guess if I'm willing to have Gil reproduce some fork decals, its time to go with it, and embrace the dark side...

Aye it's addictive alright :xmas-big-grin:

However the important thing I try to do is to actually get out and ride them, regardless of weather. I'm not very good at that bit
