Is this guy trying it on? (alleged Columbus SLX)

Came across this on an Irish ads website, it was on another one also but I challenged him on it being genuine and this evening he took it down from the other one but have a look as it may go from this one also. The other site had a comments section on the ad where you can post a comment/question and everyone who looked at the ad could see it also, but this site doesnt have that so it suits him better probably.

If he was only looking for small amount for it I couldnt care less, but 800euros for crying out loud..

Im a SLX owner since 87 but I wouldnt claim be an expert. Claims its early 70s but SLX wasnt around till mid 80s surely. The cable guides on top tube look like they are of a later time in any case.
Also my SLX doesnt have a bridge between the chain stays.Though a mate's Tomassini SLX from the mid 90s has the bridge but thats a genuine frame that my mate has.

I havent seen an indentation on the driveside chainstay on any SLX's either and do the mudguard eyelets on the rear dropouts look right for a frame that has an asking price of 800euros?

Think myself its a mid range touring frame of very uncertain provenance to say the least. He is making very big claims for a frame without any decals at all and his 'research' seems to consist of posting a picture of a genuine frame he found online and pricing his accordingly.

Re:

m sales pitch puts me off
:D and the price also.
if i was stating something was slx with no tubing sticker.
i would at least get a photo of the tube internals or state that i poked around through the bb shell
to feel the spiral grooves and stuff.
but chances are if he has found an identical frame in slx it probably is.
you could get a columbus max for less...of course if thats what you wanted, where s the fork?

Re:

Yes thats a good point about the forks, he says he only has it 2 years and ridden it only a few times so where exactly are they!

And of course if you need a repair to the gear hanger of your prized high end frame who among us hasnt gone to the local welder to do it!

Never mind though because as he says himself 'its not TOO noticeable' (my block capitals)

hi its not a name ive heard of ,but thats neither here nor there because new[to me] italian/french builders
pop up all the time.
the price says to me, you could get a hand made bespoke british tourer nice paint
un repaired 631 for that !
