Is the age of chivalry dead??

6am this morning a puncture, so I had to change the wheel. A poor helpless woman stuck by the side of the road and nobody stopped to lend a hand, as I battled with wheel spanners and jacks when all I wanted was to sit in the car while some handsome devil did it for me.

I would have called the RAC but I thought that would probably take longer than the 43 mins, small jack took ages to jack up, it took me to do the job myself. Good job I was not dressed in a short skirt and tights.

Similar thing happened to my nearly 70 year old mom last year. Car broke down and she ended up half bloking the carriageway, with no mobile to call for help, with motorists queuing up behind beeping horns and stuggling to get past. No one thinking that if they lent a hand it might make life easier for everyone.

Don't think its a gender thing though, just seems to be a trend.

Sad to say I'm still one of those that stop and help.

Its not a gender thing, its people are just too busy to think of others any more.

I'd of stopped to help, regardless of the age or sex of the person.

Last weekend I stopped to help a stranded motorcyclist, in the end we put his bike in the van and I gave him a lift home.

Last year I changed someones wheel on a winters night and helped out two cyclists with punctures.

But only because I made the time to do it, lots of people won't.

Way to get people to stop is to drive a Beetle. Whenever my '66 used to have problems (which because of a dodgy previous owner turned out to be more regularly than I'd have liked) I'd virtually have a queue of people stopping to offer help.

That's a pretty sad state of affairs though.

If I see another cyclist stopped, I'll always ask if they are ok.
I have taken time out to repair a puncture for a rider who didn't have a repair kit on them.

I have only one word to say on the matter - karma.

And why do people not push break downs off the road anymore? I'll queue for ages to find a break down on a junction and jump out and help to shove it out of the way. People seem to dump them nowadays and others queue for ages and curse the driver as they go past.

Yes. Ever since women said they are equal to men and any thing we can do they can do.

Actually - re-reading this.... if you battled with spanners, jacked the car up and changed the wheel you can't be that helpless... in fact it reads more like a bit lazy to me! ("Want to sit in the car while someone did it for me")

I can believe the 'poor' bit though as you are envolved with this site
