Is it too soon

Without nostalgia it might be this decade and year but I bought my first MTB in 1992 and my first full sus. in1997. I vote, therefore, for the 90s as best decade and 1997 as the best year ever. It was the year when full suspension came of age with good and affordable designs. FYI in '92 it was a Diamondback Sorrento and '97 a Marin Rift Zone.

For me too, 1997. That was the year I got back into MTB, after a Dawes Jackal in 1989 that started it all (but the novelty wore off once I got a decent car and discovered other 'things'...)

In 1997, I hankered after a decent Kona, longed for a Cinder Cone or something higher up the model list, with the jungle graphics. Couldn't afford one at the time, so ended up with a discounted GT Timberline, too big for me, upgraded with RS Indy XC's, then it got stolen from outside a local bike shop when they were trying to sell it for me! Used the money from the insurance claim to get an Orange Clockwork frameset and build it myself. Eventually had a whole heap of Konas from 1997 over the years, so at least that itch was scratched thoroughly
