Is it me or are there less people taking up Mountain Biking?

I have to agree with the above from fjpshaw, which obviously affects marketing.

I just think it`s peaked. Be interesting to hear from a shop owners perspective.

Re:

The chap in my local bike shop commented that sports/fast Hybrid's are where they have seen a big increase in sales.

The main reason I see is that most of the riding people were doing did not necessitate a mountain bike, so now they are not so fashionable people are being more sensible. I remember someone cool like the Fonz saying it is all good!

Re:

Road riding = easy ride and good distance traveled over a short time.

Offroad riding = harder riding with less distance travelled.

I flirt with road riding...but with the intention of bettering my off road stamina...

I'm scared of cars and stuff so the road bike hardly ever gets used.

At least if I hit a tree it's my own fault.

Fair point but I ride the unlit lanes near my house where at least I can see the cars coming...that and I shit myself in the the woods at night on my own!

This is a big concern for me, I trust my own abilities but there have been a few near misses with cars recently and it does make you think. Also I appreciate the canal path/disused railways there I can take the kids in safe(ish) environment.

Luckily I live about a 100 yards from some woodlands and make it a challenge to cycle as far as I can without hitting a road

Cars suck man ;)
