Is it a "Donovan" or is it really a carlton?

Very classy looking machine :). They were getting on a bit when I had to mend them in the 70's :). The red in the crank flutes is just period smartness. The short guards though, they seem a touch too modern?

Yours is a lovely bike! Obviously a "pride and joy" machine. Unfortunately the Donovan is too big for me. I am only 5ft 6" , the frame is 23.5" Top of seat tube to center of crank. I have been up and down the road on it and having once had a Claud Butler the same size I know I wont get on with it(I took the Claud to France for a week touring and struggled!). I ended up selling it. Probably do the same with Donovan.

I would be interested to know what the head badge looked like. The link to the Carlton site didn't work. A friend tells me the site seems to be permenantly down. Any one have any idea what the original badge looked like? Does one exist on the web? I have searched long and hard and can't find any reference to the "Donovan" marque. I may have one of the few remaining!

I Know of an image of the other Donovan I saw, still looking for it on the net...

I pal of mine is standing at the Eroica in Bakewell as a cycle jumble seller and has taken the bike with a view to selling it. He says he will stick a big price on it and see what happens because foreign collectors attend. Reckons he might get 500 quid for it!!.....I would still be interested in any information he can glean. I have still drawn a blank on the net.I will let you know the outcome.

£500 may be a bit hopeful, but on occasions like Eroica, price can be bumped up I suppose!
