He took both bikes to the police station and they basically cut the huge chain and lock. It ended well.
But theres a huge problem with bike theft in Bristol. I always keep mine inside the office.
Also consider that this could be a deliberate attempt to get the classic bike owner to leave the bike and the other guys gets to 'harvest' it later. Glad it turned out fine.
