Installing dust wipers on a Manitou 1

Anyone have any tips or tricks for seating the dust wipers on a manitou 1? I can't figure out how to get 'em into their groove after everything is put back together. If I seat it first before installing the stanchions, I can't get the lower bushing past the upper.. What's the proper way to reassemble this thing? Thanks!

THANK YOU! I found a bunch of other instructions that all had different re-assembly steps. I knew i was missing something really simple.
