Innovations that weren't...

How long until some "modern" wise guy comes along and posts a front derailleur?
Those first front dérailleurs were to allow intermediate gears off the rear freewheel - 48/52 was a common double chainset, so you'd have a half change up front of around 8%, and the rear sprockets would be around 15% apart.
Then some clever logs thought you could go 20% up front to get a 20%wider range, rather than 50% closer gearing!🤯
And now look at it!

No one has mention the stupid Hookless rims? It is not retro it is the las stupid thing you have to buy becaouse if not, you are not in fashion. The only reason for doing like that is because with 3000 euros they say it is expensive and hard to do popper way in carbon. So, the easy way. Hookless and char more and more and even in aluminium and wider rims because the wider the best .... Yes oh yea ... we all have to race in XCO olympics or something ... if you are not into the last tech you are nothing. That is why I will never follow the new stupid trends.

So it is not only retro, the saga continues (hookless rims, pres fit, DUB, bulky RDs, Boost, Boost plus etc etc) The have made so bad tech nowadays that they have to add a motor to be able to move that monsters bicycles with that 2,35 or 2,5" tires and wider rims and big wheel with lot of inertia because no one with normal fit can do 60km like in the 90s or 00s ...

Agree @madjh - more daft rubbish we are supposed to pre-occupy ourselves with.

Fairly recently did a 50s bike with Mavic's first rim for tyres called "demontable". Hookless. Had to do a lot of research of tyre width and tyre pressure to feel reasonably confident with them.

When the fast fashion changes for even wider tyres on the road, no doubt it will be a cash cow to sell wider rims too because there is no hook.

Has anyone mentioned Sugino/Tioga tension discs yet? Or Spin/Spengle/Spinergy or any other wheels of their ilk?
The wire spoked wheel is a wonderful thing. :)
String spokes are back!

But all those spinergy wheels ended up at the hipster end of urban fixie scene🤣
