Info on the GT Palomar?

Having rejuvenated my brother's abandoned Specialized Rockhopper only to have him demand it's return. :(

So... needing a replacement. I was offered a GT Palomar in fairish condition but don't know much about the model. I've seen loads of pictures/rebuilds of various other GTs (and some VERY pretty ones) but not much about the Palomar.

So any help with what this one? Were they any good? Any idea of the age? Should it have the front suspension?

I was thinking about putting rigid forks on it, canti-brakes and maybe a new paint job.

low end model, heavy etc, based on top tube it looks like it should have a short travel (obv. with integrated hanger if you're going for cantis) or appropriate sus. corrected fork. I had one and wasn't a great fan, but then    not big on GTs me

Bottom end front suspension bike from GT. I dont think the whole frame is cro-mo, some may be Hi-ten.

I wouldnt unless you feel a real affinity for it...

aye. prolly a cromo seat tube

Point of note, Mikee would recommend a lump of lead if it had a GT badge embossed in it

That said, ride it a bit before deciding, others opinions are only that ;)

Yeah, says so at the base of the seat tube. So does that mean only one tube is cromo? The others, some heavy gas piping?

I'll pump up the tires and take for a spin tomorrow, see how it handles.
