A brief diversion into the world of motorcycle tyres.
3 or 4 years ago I was chatting with a manager at the head office of a tyre manufacturer, who informed me that their new off-road tyre was just days away from going into production.
It was to be named after a US national park by the tyre's US development team, but the derivation of the park's name had completely passed them by and the tyre was about to be called the Teton.
Thanks to smutty schoolboy humour 50 years ago I knew the park's name originated with early French explorers calling the mountain peaks Les Trois Teton, or The Three Teats.
Thankfully they heeded my warning and gave the tyre another name, otherwise it might forever have been known as the Nipple.
