IMO

I'm sure if you complained to John he'd be so mortified that you were so offended and hurt at stumbling upon an obnoxious bike he'd refund your membership fee in an instant, infact he'd probably refund you twice over.

Come on, lighten up. It's just a site dedicated to old bikes. If you'd received a kidney transplant and it was an ill suited donor with the wrong blood group or something then I think you would have a right to be miffed at the misdescription but stumbling upon a modern bike on a site dedicated to old bikes isn't really a good reason to get all upset. Just take a deep breath and move on to another post, there's a good fellow.

It's a rant. Your entitled to it if course.

Some, well most of the newer bikes tend to be part of some ones collection.
Many retro boys and girls want to preserve thier oldies but still want to ride so a new one takes the slack.

If it was a regular event I could understand your beef, but it's not so I won't be stressing

retro1

…imitative of a style or fashion from the recent past…

retro2

…short for retrorocket…

retro-

…denoting action that is directed backwards or is reciprocal…

Seems to me that the actual meaning of retro covers a lot of things, plenty of which could be new bikes.

We all know this site has a different slant, but the rest of the world might come here looking for something different.

I love riding, I don't care what it is I am riding.

Happen to like older bikes as well as the newer ones.

I like classic cars too.

Surprise.

I have never been offended by anyone discussing a new car on a classic car forum.

:)

One of the reasons I subscribe to the forum on a website called retrobike.co.uk is to..... discuss/see pictures/talk about RETROBIKEs. Okay my 1996 Rockhopper isnt as retro as the bikes that some of you guys have restored lovingly but at least it`s age is into double figures.

(from dictionary.reference.com)
RETRO:eek:f or designating the style of an earlier time: retro clothes

Why oh why is there a thread on this forum (retrobike.co.uk) about a bike that is still in production? Maybe I am being snobby about the fact I dont own one, but frankly having seen a friend damage his ** *** in an incident the other day I can justify having paid twice the price for a stronger, less common frame.

rant over.

Have the pain killers stopped working?? you grumpy old man   ;)

old and new

I have old bikes and new bikes people have to remember the old bikes we love today were new at one point in their lives and many of them were not classed as very good BITD

and on another point I'm no lightweight some would even unwisely call me a fat ass. Old bikes like say Alpinestars were not that well built and quite prone to falling apart, cracking or even disintegrating at any point, i therefore have a 2004 specialized that can and will take any abuse without falling apart therefore preserving my pride and joys (most new bikes were designed looking at the failings of older designs) and if someone nicks my specialized i can just go to a shop and buy another one no hassle

New bikes + Old bikes = Happy Happy Rider/collector
