Immovable freewheel?

Yup watch the mag alloy, Big Eck got a seatpost out a frame for me with the aid of a blowtorch. We didn't realise the post was mag alloy, the blinding flash nearly blinded the big fella, plus some of the molten residue stayed in the frame reducing the clearance for a new seatpost from 27.2mm to 27.0mm :facepalm:

Only Mag Wheels I've ever seen were plastic. Are things weird in the mtb world? :shock:

You do get magnesium alloy mag wheels in mtb world. Plastic Mags on a 26" wheel would be too flexy, you need the stiffness of a metal. Grimeca were a major player in this market.

Anti-sieze compound is what it's generically called. You can get small tubes in Halfords. It looks like copper toothpaste.

I did try it once but looked like jaws but with rusty teeth :-(

Still smelt good though with the WD40 after shave

Use a thread-file to clean the threads up.
You'll need to know what thread it is first though.

As bad as it looks in places, the thread actually cleaned up quite well. I just went around it with a toothbrush and some wd40 and it looks good enough for a new freewheel now. The front wheel is all good now, new bearings installed. Alas, i failed to notice at auction time that it isn't disc compatible. I had thought anyway that the exposed hub face might be drillable to take a disc but it isn't in the same line at all... so thats archived for future builds (or a family/friends build). Just waiting on the copaslip and new bearings to finish the rear off and will be done.
