Bassett was a boat racing equipment manufacturer, they made header pipes by hand down in Florida. Then, in the 80s, they decided to branch out into bikes to capitalize on the BMX cruiser thing.
They're still at it today

I tested a self-made one on the January CM. It rides about the same as when you walk out of the pub with 3.8‰.... By that I mean it's fun as hell!
