The forth bridge has never collapsed? I believe it was built after the Tay bridge disaster, so to regain confidence in big bridges, they upped the safety margin from 3 times to 7 times as strong as it needed to be.Always thought they looked like the Forth bridge after it collapsed, could never really see the point of them...
Yeah I'm sure one could conjure up some sort of mounting system that'd require no welding, perhaps with supports attaching to the upper brace of the bars.that isn't completely stupid (it's a little bit stupid). given it's use is going to be all road I'd think the brace would stand up to the abuse. you could easily do something similar without the need to weld too.
