in the past 6 years i have lived in France for 2 years in Germany for a year and in Denmark now for 3 months.
I raise an eyebrow when I hear I want to live in xyz, because the UK is xyz.
What makes people think that the rest of Europe is so great. They have the same problems with immigration, crime, unemployment, taxes and crappy polititions.
Personally, I prefere the UK to France, Germany and Denmark, because all my friends and family lived there and I feel empowered because I know how to run my life, my rights and what to do if things go wrong.
You might have been on a romantic holiday to the French Med. You might get a job there, but what if you lose the Job? You think your chances are better there as a British ex-pat when the employment squeeze is on?
I work in the aircraft industry, I know people who had moved to Oz to work there, but after the recession many are working outside Oz, back in Europe and away from the families they shipped there...that sun soaked dream turned sour.
Back on topic, I know someone who joined the legion in the 80's. He was there for a couple of years and deserted. He NEVER talks about it and will get really ratty if you mention it.
