I'll share one of my phobias.

carbon and aluminium both scare me..... if they have been out of my sight.

I have a completely carbon crosser... frame ,bar, stem, seat pin, fork and steerer levers and mec's and I trust it implicitly as I built it from new and I have never left it out of my sight unless it has been at home.

old aluminium or carbon is potentially bad news imo.

i heard that the stress in carbon builds up over time, i dont dis trust it or trust it, not that i have ever used any. all bikes have to meet some sort of specification that ensures at least some safety and rigourous tests are done so i would trust most materials and i have broken lots of stuff. everything has its limit though :?

I bunny hopped a large log but did not make it, chain set caught the top of the log I sat down hard on the saddle and the force snapped the seat clamp straight off the top of the Easton carbon seat post, it was the glue that failed not the carbon. Still had a long ride home standing up. Now I only use Thompson posts they give the impression that they are bomb proof. Still got carbon bars on my Kona Kula can't say they have caused me any problems.
