If I had the Money...... Yo content

It's good that people can get this kind of info on a bike. My first read of the eBay advert had me thinking the seller was original owner and there's no giveaways about the repaint there in there.....

What does a respray do the value? Halve it?

The giveaway was the position of the Chris Chance sig and Saratoga sticker - they are totally in the wrong place. Also looks like it has a Saratoga and Mass build sticker. The size giveaway comes from simply experience of knowing the relative lengths of tubes and being able to spot.

As for value of a repainted frame? I personally think it drops the value - the craft in original paint is a big feature of Fats.

I'm not sure what it does for you? You tell me.

Re:

Not much.
If the paint was original and in tippy top condition it would have investment potential, but I wouldn't be paying that much for something that's going to get used and abused, ain't original and easily outed as such.
Fats are ten a penny. Original ones in good nick are much rarer. 5 years ago any old rubbish would sell for over the odds but it seems like buyers are wising up.

I just got one with original paint from California and when it arrived I realised the seat tube was rotten and now needs a full argos resto job so there goes my original paint dreams :?

Oh well, I think the metallic dark rosso red, ala kingroons IF deluxe is in order

Re:

Personally I reckon a top quality 'faithful OEM' quality respray by one of a tiny handful of painters, on a mint un rusted frame, is worth top $. These bikes were made to be enjoyed and many are ~ 25yrs old. Of course we all lust after the likes of a mint original Harlequin fade though ;)
